This says it all. I have a long list of TO-DOs!! Arughhh

Pom pom boom!

Ahhh my latest craze, POM TRIMS! Look at how lovely they look, peeking out of a cuff sample. Yes I love how they turned out so its a GO-AHEAD with them in my new pieces. Look out for them soon yeh!

Molly Molly

A night out with the Loys, had me stumbling upon this really retro dressmaker's outlet. I loved the tiles, the signage, every bit of it. It had me thinking what goes on behind these doors, and I will definitely be knocking on its doors one day.

i-am-so-in-love-with these mosaic tiles!

This reminds me that I had not uploaded some similar pictures I took in Kluang. Will update soon!

Mini Revamp of Dayglow's Site and rebrand

Thursday, September 2, 2010 0
Finally!! I got down to having a facelift for Dayglow (Vintage)'s website. After a short consultation session with our branding agency, we decided to be called simply "Dayglow". Brand Director Ben commented its oxymoron to be called "Vintage" when it could be apparent in our designs. Also we have a new logo! If any of you are curious to find out the past logos that we have considered. here are the finalists:

Courtesy of Ken Choo, Kilo Studio

Courtesy of Adnan, Random Task

The last one was close to being selected. It was also most similar to the one we used prior to this new one with the word "Dayglow". Ant of Drom Store commented that our previous would look more "indie" though the new one would look more commercialised. It was a very very tough decision to make, as branding of logo should be done once and hopefully right. I feel good about the new logo and branding, so it's a good start to newer things I hope.

Dreaming of an industrial Serger / Overlocker

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 0
Of late I've been toying with the idea of investing in an industrial overlocker / serger. Currently, I'm using a Juki Domestic one that I accquired from Karen (my previous regular seamstress). It's still serving me well, but the grass is always greener on the other side. I'm now just itching to have more sewing gadgets and an industrial overlocker is definitely on my list. Well it is not quite within my budget now, as a 2nd hand one of Juki make costs S$770! Secondly, storage space is going to be an issue. My sewing room is too cramped, tuppleware boxes of fabrics stacked, my industrial machine, my drafting table, my vintage chest of drawers (bought for my future home), my old cupboard that is filled with clothes that have overflowed from my (new) main cupboard, tons of other old stuff..... not quite a good idea to bring home this machine now.

This would be similar to the industrial one I'm eyeing...
costs about 400 pounds on this UK site!

why do you need such a big table for such a small fellow here?

It got me kind of high by the sounds of it running (I hear that in school whenever teacher overlocks on hers) The sounds of it... as opposed to the domestic one I have now....

(YAWN..)
Juki Domestic Model MO613

Its ok for my capacity now, maybe I'm just daydreaming again that I will own that large factory space with all the cool sewing machinery...so slowly building up my fixed assets :)

Full Skirts

CANNOT BE! $4 plus for a skirt! Yes I know, 1950s price.. Imagine having to sell a skirt for only $4, will be begging on the streets soon. But these skirts are so cute!!! Love them and will make some too!

Request from Jaslyn!

Monday, August 30, 2010 0
Jaslyn is a very accomodating lady who wrote to me via email, to get a retro style dress specially made for her DnD. She sent me this picture which I simply loved too!

This will be an Eton Collared dress and to make it really swingy, I shorten the skirt length and gave it a flare as opposed to an A-line cut. Completed the dress according to Jas' measurements:

Big Eton Collar for that Retro Ommph!

Hot in Dots

She seems to be enjoying herself @ her DnD

Pardon the bad home photography. As of time of photo taking, my D90 has been kidnapped by Mr Potato, and I was at the mercy of my old Canon point-and-shoot. Thanks Jas for the pics and it was my pleasure to be of service to you!
